Saigon Players launch visual arts, music show

The Saigon Players, a non-profit group of expat artists, will perform “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle” in Ho Chi Minh City from May 16 to 19.

The event, which is taking place at McSorley’s Ale House, 4 Thao Dien, District 2, will feature visual arts performances, symphony concerts, ball dances, flamenco, painting exhibits, comic skits, and poem recitations.

The group’s latest play, called “The House of Bernada Alba”, which will be performed every night at 7pm, will also be a highlight of the event.

The group’s version of the play, called “La casa de Bernarda Alba” in its original Spanish and originally created by Spanish dramatist Federico García Lorca, is considered one of Spain’s greatest theatrical masterpieces of the 20th century and has been staged in many countries, is directed by Jennifer Dizon Turner.

“The Hand That Rocks the Cradle” will also feature several local artists, musicians, dancers, choreographers, poets, members of the HCMC International Choir and Orchestra, and teachers and students from the HCMC Inspirato Music Centre and The Performing Arts Academy.

Tickets cost VND300,000 (US$14.2). All event proceeds will be donated to charity.
