Visiting Cambodian National Assembly (NA) chairman Heng Samrin said in Hanoi on Monday that he hope Cambodia and Vietnam will foster cooperation to increase two-way trade to much more than the current US$2.5 billion.

The Cambodian legislative chief expressed his hope in his meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Sinh Hung on August 18 in Hanoi, as part of his three-day visit to Vietnam.
The guest highly valued the support of the Vietnamese NA for Cambodia and asked the two legislative bodies to continue strengthening their cooperation by increasing delegation exchanges and sharing experience in law making.
After hailing Vietnam’s socio-economic development, the Cambodian NA chairman suggested that countries to boost trade cooperation towards a two-way trade that is much higher than the current US$2.5 billion.
In reply, Chairman Hung described the guest’s visit as an important landmark in bilateral ties between the two NAs, significantly contributing to promoting the Vietnam-Cambodia friendship and solidarity.
He also enphasized that Vietnam shares difficulties and challenges facing Cambodia, especially those caused by hostile forces to harm the traditional solidarity between the two peoples.
In such a context, the two NAs should strengthen solidarity to protect their partnership outcomes and continue to support each other for the sake of both countries, Chairman Hung said.
He affirmed that the Vietnamese legislature and people will do their best to help the Cambodian people in building and maintaining peace, unity, independence and development.
The same day, Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung also had talks with their Cambodian guest to discuss measures to expand bilateral ties between the two countries.
