On Sunday around 10,000 people flocked to Hanoi’s My Dinh Stadium for a community dance performance tiled “Hay Cung Hat Vang” (Let’s Sing Aloud) which was later recognized by the Vietnam Book of Records Center as the biggest dancing and singing event in the country’s history.

The 4-hour event, which included not only dancing but also other kinds of street arts like football art performances, beatboxing, graffiti and parkour, aimed to celebrate the 58th anniversary of the capital’s liberation (October 10).

The event also saw the participation of Katherine Muller-Marin, representative and head of the UNESCO Hanoi Office, and a number of local artists, including singers Minh Quan and Thai Thuy Linh, model Andrea and actor Baggio as well as foreigners who wanted to join in a celebration by local youths.

“I’m so happy since I can contribute to setting the new record. This is a big gift for all the artists and volunteers’ effort during the last few days,” model Andrea shared at the event.

“People join to sing and dance together. This really connects strangers. I feel shared and loved being here,” Hoang Ngoc Thuy, a student from Hanoi University, expressed.

According to the organizers, besides the hope of the record, the event also aimed to connect people in the community as well as build a fund to help disadvantaged people.

In related news, around 200 local youths gathered on September 29 at the Indochina Plaza in Hanoi’s Cau Giay District to join Vietnam’s first-ever community dance performance, themed “Yeu La Yeu” (Love is Love), expressing their support for the local lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
