Tuoitrenews recommends some entertainment events for the first weekend of November

Hanoi

- 83 members of the Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at 8pm at Hanoi Opera House on November 3 under the baton of German conductor Claus Peter Flor. The talented young Malaysian pianist Tengku Ahmad Irfan will also join the concert. Hanoi Opera House is located at 1 Trang Tien Street.

- An exhibit called “Asia – The cultural hues”, which showcases nearly 100 antique artifacts from 10 Asian countries, is running in Hanoi until January 2014. On exhibit are treasured antiques from China, Japan, South Korea, India, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, which are being kept at the Vietnam National History Museum.

- Works by established and young Vietnamese painters are also on exhibit at the Embassy of Denmark in Hanoi at 19 Dien Bien Phu Street. The exhibition is part of the project to introduce Vietnamese paintings at the Embassy of Denmark launched from last year.

- Japanese Kuricorder Quartet will give free music concerts in Hanoi on November 1 and 2 in celebration of the Japan – Vietnam Friendship Year 2013. The concerts will be held for general audiences at Voice Of Vietnam Theatre at 58 Quan Su Street at 8pm on November 1 and at the courtyard of the Japan Foundation at 27 Quang Trung Street at 8pm the day after.

- Local underground music artists will gather at the festival titled “Underfest” to be held at the Van Ho Exhibition Center at 2 Hoa Lu Street on November 2. The event will kick off at 7pm.

Ho Chi Minh City

- Around 100 local singers will join an event titled “Dem Ket Noi Yeu Thuong” (The night to link love) at the 23/9 Park in District 1 at 6pm on November 1. The event is held to raise funds to help children in flood regions go to school.

- The French Arties Quartet will have a concert in the city tonight to celebrate the France in Vietnam Year. At the event, the artists will showcase G. Fauré’s “Piano Trio in D minor, opus 120,” WA Mozart’s “Piano Quartet No. 2 in E flat major k.493,” and R. Schumann’s “Piano Quartet in E flat major opus 47.” The concert will take place at 8pm at the HCMC Youth Cultural House, 04 Pham Ngoc Thach Street in District 1. Tickets cost VND100,000 (US$4.72) for the general public and VND50,000 for students.

- Japanese pianist Mari Terada, who studied piano for years in Germany, will perform for the first time in HCMC at her solo concert titled “Autumn Dreams” at 8pm on November 1 at HCMC Conservatory of Music. During the 1.5 hour concert, Mari will perform masterpieces by world renowned composers including F. Chopin, J.Brahms, C.Debussy, F.Liszt and M. Mussorgsky. The venue is at 112 Nguyen Du Street in District 1.

- IDECAF will screen the cartoon “Zarafa” directed by Rémi Bezançon and Jean-Christophe Lie at 3pm on November 2. The film will be shown with Vietnamese subtitles. Tickets cost VND15,000 (US$0.71). IDECAF is at 28 le Thanh ton Street in District 1.

Nationwide

- A program called “Gap go mua thu 2013” (Meeting the autumn 2013), to run in Da Nang city from Nov 3 to 8, will feature a workshop offering training and financial aid to aspiring young local filmmakers, among other activities. The “Gap go mua thu 2013” program is expected to gather and connect many personalities in the local film industry through exchanges, film screening galas, award giving and fund raising activities.

- French movies are being screened for free in provinces and big cities including Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hue, Da Nang, Lam Dong, Khanh Hoa Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City until Dec 20 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Vietnam – France diplomatic ties. The four selected movies, which have been quite successful in France, are “Artist”, “Intouchables”, and comedy-romance films “De vrais mensonges” (Beautiful lies) and “Un plan parfait” (A perfect plan).

- Numerous blockbusters including “The spy: Undercover operation” and “Ender’s game” are being screened at cinemas across the country, offering some interesting choices for the weekend.
