The 7th edition of the annual Japanese Film Festival will open in Vietnam next month and feature eight films that revolve around the theme of passion, the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam has announced on its website.

“Lien hoan phim Nhat Ban 2014: Niem dam me” (Japanese Film Festival 2014: Passion) is slated to be held from October 10 to November 16 in three cities, including Hanoi in the north, Da Nang City in the central region, and Vung Tau City in the south.

Eight films to be screened at the fest focus on the passion of people, especially the young, which makes them stronger to pursue their dreams, overcome the difficulties in their daily life, and have a better future.

The event will kick off with “ROBO-G” produced by Japanese director Shinobu Yaguchi in January 2012. The film tells the story of Shigemitsu Suzuki, a 73-year-old man, and Yoko Sasaki, a college student, who is obsessed with robots.

After its release, “ROBO-G” was shown at several film festivals held in the same year outside Japan, including the 36th Hong Kong International Film Festival, the 13th Jeonju International Film Festival in South Korea, the 16th Fantasia Film Festival in Canada, and the 45th Sitges Film Festival in Spain.

The 111-minute flick will be screened at 7:00 pm on October 10 at the National Cinema Center at 87 Lang Ha Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi.

Free tickets to enter the festival will be available on September 27 at the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam at 27 Quang Trung Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi; on November 10 at Le Do Cinema, 46 Tran Phu Street, Da Nang; and on October 24 at Dien Bien Cinema, 32 Do Chieu Street, Vung Tau.

All films will be screened with both English and Vietnamese subtitles. The Japanese Film Festival was first organized in 2008 by the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam.
