World Bank pledges to help Vietnam make population report

World Bank pledges to help Vietnam make population report

Saturday, September 12, 2015, 15:18 GMT+7

The World Bank (WB) will help Vietnam complete a population report with a vision towards 2035, WB Country Director for Vietnam Victoria Kwakwa told President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Nguyen Thien Nhan at a meeting in Hanoi on Friday.

In her talks with Nhan, who is also a Politburo member, Kwakwa said the WB President will visit the country by the end of this year to discuss this issue, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

The WB official underlined the significance of the report, which she said will help Vietnam build policies for further development in the next 20 years based on the results of reform and good economic growth over the past 30 years.

Labor productivity will be essential for the country to achieve the goal of ensuring equality in parallel with economic development, Kwakwa said, noting that the country’s productivity has declined during the past 15 years.

The WB is conducting a survey in the country to measure the satisfaction of locals and businesses about anti-corruption efforts, Kwakwa said.

She also underlined the importance of public access to information on anti-corruption, as this will help accelerate the fight against corruption.

VFF President Nhan thanked the WB for its help in presenting the overall situation of Vietnamese economy, and expressed his hope that the WB will continue to support Vietnam’s socio-economic development.

Nhan told Kwakwa that the VFF will encourage local citizens to join anti-corruption efforts while studying public satisfaction about local authorities’ performance in this field.

At the meeting, the two sides also discussed issues in other fields including land management, smart urban building, and civil society.
