U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius and U.S. Consul General Rena Bitter on February 5 learned to make bun bo Hue (spicy beef noodles from the central Vietnamese city of Hue).

The cooking session in the Imperial City in Hue city was part of the ambassador’s visit to Thua Thien – Hue province on February 5 and 6.

Wearing professional chef outfits, the U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam and U.S. Consul General learned steps to make the Vietnamese dish under the instruction of chefs from Hue Tourism College.

The ambassador who talked with the chefs in fluent Vietnamese also asked them carefully about the dish’s ingredients.

Ambassador Ted Osius who earlier came to the city in 1997 with his family happily expressed his pride in cooking a typical Vietnamese dish. He also explained that he chose a Hue- originated dish to learn because it’s a traditional dish which reflects Vietnamese culture and history.
