Politics:

-- Lawmakers yesterday discussed the modified bill on saving and anti-waste at state-funded agencies in Vietnam, blaming that waste has plagued in the nation and caused more damages than graft.

-- At the discussion of the modified draft of the Constitution 1992 by lawmakers of the National Assembly, ideas suggested to rule in the Constitution that the Communist Party will be the only leading force in Vietnam. The Constitution 1992 says the Communist Party leads all activities of the State of Vietnam.

Society:

-- Nguyen Thanh Chan, who has been imprisoned for ten years for his life sentence of murder, was released yesterday after the genuine murderer of the case was identified. Chan will be officially vindicated soon.

-- 276 Vietnam laborers from the northern province of Thanh Hoa illegally work for fishing ships of China, according to Thanh Hoa Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

-- After Typhoon Krosa abated to become a tropical low pressure, a new tropical low pressure has brewed up in the southeast of the Philippines and may reinforce itself to become a typhoon moving towards the East Sea.

-- Yesterday, the People’s Supreme Procuracy officially prosecuted 10 State officials in the Vinalines case for embezzlement and ‘intentionally violating State regulations that causes severe consequences’. Investigation shows that the officials had embezzled VND28 billion (US$1.3 million) and caused a loss of VND366 billion ($17.6 million).

Business:

-- Hanoi yesterday hosted the first economic cooperation forum between Vietnam and the Middle East and northern Africa.

-- The State Bank of Vietnam is collecting ideas for a draft decree which is planned to be submitted to the Government next month about the donation in cash of foreign currencies. Accordingly, donors are required to change money to gift it in Vietnam currency.

-- Israel is collaborating with the Central Highland region of Vietnam to deploy hi-tech farming techniques, especially the irrigation network and desalination, said Mr. Yair Shamir, agriculture and rural development minister of Israel.

-- Authorities of the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam displayed 138 projects with a total investment capital of US$9 billion at the economic forum MDEC in Vinh Long to invite potential investors.

Sports:

-- Two elite table tennis stars of Vietnam, Tuan Quynh and Quang Linh, will miss the 27th Southeast Asian Games next month in Myanmar.
