Motorbikes allowed on Ho Chi Minh City expressway ramp

Tuesday, January 17, 2017, 14:20 GMT+7

Motorbike riders will be allowed to use the emergency lane of a four-kilometer entrance ramp of the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway in southern Vietnam this weekend.

Starting this Saturday, motorbikes can use part of the expressway from An Phu Intersection to Ring Road 2 Intersection in District 2, Ho Chi Minh City, the city’s Department of Transport said.

The four-kilometer section is an entrance ramp where four-wheeled vehicles can drive at up to 70 kilometers per hour.

The normally cars-only expressway will allow motorbikes on the ramp’s emergency lane with a speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour.

Lane separators and traffic signs are being installed on the section of the expressway to guarantee safety for commuters, the transport department said.

The entire expressway, which was inaugurated in August 2015, measures 55 kilometers and connects Ho Chi Minh City with neighboring Dong Nai Province.

The expressway was built over a period of nearly six years at a total cost of VND20.63 trillion (US$920.98 million) sourced from foreign loans.
