A book on legendary General Vo Nguyen Giap written by French philosopher Georges Boudarel has been translated into Vietnamese and released nationwide.

The 252-page Vo Nguyen Giap, translated from the original version titled Giap published by the Paris-based Edition Atlas in 1977, is a biography of the general from his childhood to his victories in the French war.

In the introduction, Vietnamese historian Duong Trung Quoc notes that Georges Boudarel has written a careful analysis of Giap as a military leader.

Boudarel was born in Saint-Etienne, Loire in 1926 and died in 2003. He studied philosophy and later joined the French Communist Party.

In the late 1940s, he was a history professor at Marie Curie High School in Sai Gon, and led the Indochinese branch of the French Communist Party.

In 1949, he left his job as a teacher of philosophy at Yersin High School in Da Lat and joined Vietnamese soldiers.

Boudarel left Viet Nam in 1964 and later worked for the World Federation of Trade Unions in Prague.

After an amnesty law in 1966, he returned and continued his studies in France, and then taught at Paris Diderot University.

Boudarel has translated many Vietnamese literary works into French, and written many books about Viet Nam.

Published by the The Gioi (World) Publishing House, the book was issued by Thai Ha Books. It costs VND101,000 (US$5) for the paperback and VND202,000 ($10) for the hardcover edition.
