An exhibition called “Comics, Manga & Co – The culture of new German comics”, to be held in Hanoi from May 8, will feature works by two generations of German artists who helped shape the art into what it is.

The exhibition, which will run at the Hanoi Goethe Institute, at 58 Nguyen Thai Hoc street from May 8 to June 2, will showcase 55 different comic works by 13 German artists.

The works, which represent significant streams in German comic art, come in a wide variety of styles, ranging from Jens Harder’s detail-packed and scientific paintings in “Alpha”; and Reinhard Kaiser’s graphic, film-like novels; to Christina Plaka’s manga, a Japanese-style comic or animated cartoon for little girls.

Artist Line Hoven, whose works are to be displayed during the exhibition, will visit Hanoi to attend workshops and other activities related to the event.

Some of the notable workshops are those held with Vietnamese comic artists on May 14 and with students from the Hanoi Fine Arts University on May 15.

According to the organizers, there will also be a program specifically for kids, which will take place on the coming International Children’s Day, June 1.
