-- The north will continue to experience a chill as a cold snap is forecast to hit it on Feb. 12 afternoon and evening, according to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

-- A/H5N1 avian flu has spread to many localities in central Vietnam including Quang Ngai, Quang Nam, Daklak, and KonTum over the last days with thousands of chickens and ducks having died or been culled.

-- Nguyen Tho Truyen, deputy chairman of Ho Chi Minh City’s Thu Duc District’s People Committee, claimed on a meeting on Tuesday that illegal preschools in the locality should be temporarily kept because of the lack of schools. Previously, in mid-December last year, the whole country was shocked to know that two nursemaids in Thu Duc brutally abused their preschoolers.

-- A 58-year-old man was crushed to death by a large-trunk tree while he was stealing trees at the Mui Ca Mau national park in the southernmost province of Ca Mau on Feb. 8. Regarding this case, a local forest ranger has been suspended.

-- 11 people were injured as a bus carrying pilgrims crashed into a shop in Binh Duong southern province’s Thuan An district on Tuesday.

-- Three 9^th graders in the southern coastal province of Khanh Hoa have successfully created an astronomical telescope.

-- Despite the recent economy slowdown, Vietnam still sees a boom in construction to expand breweries and build new ones.

-- Vietnam’s “Don ca tai tu” (southern folk music) was officially recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity at a solemn ceremony held at Thong Nhat Hall in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 1 on Tuesday. Katherine Muller, representative of UNESCO in Vietnam, handed over the UNESCO’s certificate to authorities in HCMC at this event.
