The Hanoi Vertical Run that will be held on September 30 in the city’s tallest building, The Landmark 72 Tower, will officially be admitted in the 2012 Vertical World Circuit (VWC).

The event, which will create a challenge for participants to ascend 1,914 steps to the observation deck on the 72nd floor at the total height of 350 meters, is one of the nine races of the circuit held across the world.

It includes the ones in New York, London, Milan, Basel of Switzerland, Berlin in the western hemisphere and then on to Asia with Taipei, Hanoi and Singapore.

“We are pleased to be bringing the Vertical World Circuit back to Vietnam for the 2012 season and look forward to continuing to be a part of the circuit next year and into the future,” said David Shin, head of Sporting Republic, one of the event organizers.

Winners of the races will then get tickets to compete in the circuit finale in November in Sao Paolo of Brazil.

Australian racer Suzy Walsham, three-time winner of New York City’s Empire State Building Run-Up, has confirmed to compete in the Landmark 72 Vertical Run in Hanoi.

Online registrations have started with a participation fee of US$15.00 per person.

The first such vertical race in Vietnam was organized in October last year in the Ho Chi Minh City’s Bitexo Financial Tower. The world’s defending champion of vertical run, Thomas Dold from Germany won the event after finishing 1,002 steps to reach the 49th floor in less than five minutes.
