A recent spring book street in Hanoi has yielded an impressive amount of revenue, within a couple of days since its opening last week.

During three days of operation, the total revenue the spring book street generated from selling books is VND4 billion (US$178,800), according to the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications.

With about 100,000 books sold, nearly VND1 billion ($44,700) was made per day on average, the department, which is the organizer, said.

The department has also estimated that up to tens of thousands of people visited the book fest, which was held on Le Thach Street.

The book street, which ran between February 10 and 15, featured 20 book publishing companies, including Alpha Books Joint Stock Company, Thai Ha Books Joint Stock Company, Fahasa, and more.

Several books appealed to most readers at the event, one of which is “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” published by Literature Publishing House.

Many activities were also organized at the book fest to thrill visitors, like meetings with authors, calligraphy, and lots of cultural exhibitions.

The book street in Hanoi is one of the two spring book venues in major cities in Vietnam. The other is located on Nguyen Van Binh Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

On February 1, the Da Nang People’s Committee sent staff from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism as well as the Department of Information and Communications to the book street in Ho Chi Minh City to study its operation in order to transform one of its streets into a similar model.

If everything is on track, Da Nang will soon inaugurate its book street, which means there will be three book streets in Vietnam.
