Father filmed letting five-year-old son drive scooter in Vietnam

A Vietnamese child was spotted behind the handlebars of a scooter, with his father leisurely riding pillion, in a YouTube video that has gone viral since the weekend.

Neither of them was wearing compulsory crash helmets, and the boy apparently enjoyed driving on what appears to be a street in Hanoi, according to the video seen by Tuoi Tre News.

The 43-second clip, uploaded on YouTube on Saturday, was filmed by someone traveling on another motorcycle alongside the Piaggio Liberty scooter, with a Hanoi license plate.

Another boy is heard saying in the video that the ‘kid driver’ is only five and a half years old.

The father is seen holding a balloon and only touching his right hand on the handlebar to help control the vehicle for less than a second, before letting his son totally take charge of the driving.

The video clip immediately went viral on social networks after it surfaced on YouTube, with a groundswell of criticism directed at the father.

The boy could have possibly lost control of the vehicle at any time, and allowing a kid under six years old to drive a scooter is an act of irresponsibility, according to netizens.

A typical comment on the video is that the man is the “most stupid dad of the year,” according to what Tuoi Tre News has seen.

With the license plate of the vehicle as seen in the video, it is also suggested that police look into the case and fine the father for breaching traffic laws.
