Vietnam to face Laos at the SEA U-19 Football Championship

After winning group B with all five wins, the Vietnamese national football team will take on group A runner-up Laos in the semifinal game tomorrow at the Southeast Asian U-19 Football Championship taking place in Indonesia.

In the group stage, U-19 Vietnam defeated all rivals coming from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Brunei, scoring a total of 15 goals and conceding 5 goals.

Though the Vietnamese team twice beat Laos 3-1 and 5-0 during a training session last month, U-19 Vietnam’s coach Graechen Guillaume was modest before the semifinal clash at Gelora Delta Stadium, saying, “We respect U-19 Laos.”

He added, “They had careful preparation before this tournament. Laotian players have well built stature and a highly competitive spirit. Their strength is at the front line where they have a big forward.”

Laotian players are also highly motivated when fighting for the ball, the coach said.

“However, Laotian players often get exhausted in the second half of the game. Though Vietnam is a little bit stronger than Laos, anything can happen in football,” Guillaume said.

“The team who scores more goals will advance to the final match.”

The other semifinal game will be the clash between the host Indonesia and East Timor.
