-- A source from the Ministry of Public Security revealed on Tuesday that the central investigation police and cybercriminal police departments under the ministry had arrested 10 people involved in an online football gambling ring whose web server is located overseas. The illegal organization had lured thousands of gamblers with total wagers amounting up to hundreds of billions of dong (VND1 billion is equivalent to US$44,139).

-- Registration offices across Hanoi on Tuesday were overloaded with electric bike users who scrambled to get a license plate for their vehicle before a regulation to fine those who fail to do so takes effect on July 1.

-- A nine-year-old boy drowned on Tuesday, the first day of his swimming class at a hotel swimming pool in Vinh City, the heart of the north-central province of Nghe An.

Business

-- Bruno Angelet, Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Vietnam, asserted at a press conference held in Hanoi on Tuesday that Britain's vote to leave the grouping, or Brexit, will leave no impact on the ratification process of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement. The bilateral trade pact, signed in Brussels in early December 2015 after nearly three years with 14 rounds of negotiation, will remove nearly all tariffs between the Southeast Asian nation and the bloc once implemented in 2018.

-- Representatives of the Taiwanese Business Association in Dong Nai Province, bordering Ho Chi Minh City, voiced their grievances about complicated procedures and undue inspection involved in applying for construction permits at a dialogue held on Tuesday with provincial leaders.

-- Nguyen Bich Lam, head of the General Statistics Office (GSO), announced at a press meeting on Tuesday that Vietnam’s GDP growth has inched up by 5.52 percent in the first six months of 2016, with a slow rate recorded in agriculture and aquaculture compared to the same period last year.

-- Monkey Junior, one of the currently leading language-tutoring applications on App Store and Google Play which is created by a Vietnamese innovator, beat 29 contenders from 23 countries and territories to claim the first prize in the startup category at the 2016 GIST Tech-I Global Pitch Competition, which took place on June 23 and 24 in California.
