- The Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption has recently released a plan to organize a national conference on anti-corruption on May 5 in Hanoi. The conference will evaluate anti-corruption activities in 2013 as well as discuss tasks for 2014.
Society:
- Tourism boat number QN 3736 under the management of Cuu Long Ltd., Co. was on fire during its trip around Ha Long Bay, located in the northern province of Quang Ninh, at around 10:30 am on Thursday. All 17 passengers, including 15 foreigners and 2 Vietnamese, and property were brought safely ashore.
- On April 10, an international conference on dermatology opened in the central city of Da Nang. The event gathered nearly 1,000 experts from Asian countries and 80 experts from European and American nations.
- The government has issued a decree to instruct the implementation of the Labor Law on hiring maids for the first time. Accordingly, as from April 24, the hiring will require labor contracts with clear terms specifying salaries, bonuses, and compensation.
- Ho Chi Minh City Police said Thursday that they had arrested Taiwanese Yang Ti An, 39, for fraudulent appropriation of property. Yang is one of the 30 suspects which have been lately captured for their involvement a ring that cheats the victims over fake phone charge debts.
Business:
- Vietnam Airlines announced that it will add 342 flights to 16 domestic routes from April 25 to May 5, up 20 percent compared with its normal schedule, to meet the travel demand expected to rise on the occasion of the Reunification Day (April 30) and International Labor Day (May 1).
- Toyota Vietnam has recently recalled nearly 43,000 Innova and Fortuner cars due to technical errors in airbags.
Lifestyle:
- Quynh Trang, director of Multimedia JSC, who has recently become the first Vietnamese member of the Asian Couture Federation’s executive board, has said she is planning to hold an international-standard fashion week in Vietnam with the participation of big brand names in the world’s fashion industry. The Vietnam Fashion Week is expected to take place this November.
Education:
- The Vietnam International Education Development under the Ministry of Education and Training is recruiting 70 students for a training program on atomic energy in Russia. The program is planned to last for six years, including one year for learning the Russian language. Successful candidates will be provided with tuition fees and accommodation by the Russian government.
