Several players of the host Thailand appear upbeat about their chance to win the championship of the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup that kicks off Saturday with the opener between Vietnam and Myanmar in Bangkok. Arthit Sunthornphit, Pipob and goalie Sinthaweechai expressed their confidence in a talk with Tuoi Tre reporters on Thursday, during their stay at the SC Park Hotel. The optimism is grounded on the victorious five friendly matches they have enjoyed in the preparation for the Cup, in which the squad netted 19 goals and conceded only 2 goals. “We are fearful to no enemies,” said Sinthaweechai. “In reality we have many good players and they are all in impressive form such as Dangda, Thonglao, and Arthit.” The squad coach Winfried Schaefer worked with the coaching panel on Thursday to decide the official 22-player list from the current 27 to attend the Cup, but he has yet to announce the decision after the meeting. Thailand will play the Philippines in the Group A second opening match on November 24, and midfielder Arthit said his team and Vietnam will emerge as the two first winners. “Thailand and Vietnam will advance into the semifinal, and are likely to repeat the final as in the 2008 edition,” he concluded.
