Police in southern Vietnam have been searching for two reckless robbers who intimidated owners of a gold shop with hammers and got away with many pieces of jewelry on Thursday.

Police in Tan Uyen Town, located in Binh Duong Province, announced they are launching an investigation into a broad daylight robbery at Huynh Hoa 5 Jewelry Shop, and scouring for the two suspects.

According to initial reports, the robbery happened around 1:40 pm.

Lam Minh Dieu, 51, the shop owner, said after a quick check that he lost many gold necklaces and bracelets, weighing a total of more than 10 taels.

A tael costs approximately VND33 million (US$1,464).

Dieu told police that two masked young men lingered while he was watching over his shop.

They were acting nonchalantly as if they were average shoppers when they suddenly pulled out two hammers, smashing the shop windows and scooping up a pile of gold.

The duo dashed to a waiting bike driven by two of their accomplices.

The four sped off and got away with the jewelry, all of which lasted less than one minute.

Dieu added when he threw a piece of wood at the robbers, they yelled “Kill!”

Concerned about their own safety, his daughter kept him from running after the hammer-wielding men.

The robbers left behind articles of jewelry scattered on the scene when they stomped out in a hurry.

Police in Tan Uyen Town said they are narrowing down their search areas to locate the audacious gang.

Residents are encouraged report to police whoever they deem the suspects at 06503.656.254.
