HCMC concert features 30 year-old French band

A concert featuring the France-based band Lo’Jo will take place in Ho Chi Minh City on June 25.

The concert is to be held by the Cultural Center for French Cooperation in HCMC and the Institute of Cultural Exchange With France (IDECAF) as part of the 40 year celebration of diplomatic relation between France and Vietnam.

Founded in 1982 in Angers by singer/keyboardist Denis Péan and Richard Bourreau (violin/kora), the band has performed and recorded a blend of world music with strong North African as well as French folk elements. Lo’jo currently consists of  Denis Péan, Richard Bourreau, Nadia Nid El Mourid, Yamina Nid El Mourid, Kham Meslien, and Baptiste Brondy.

Their 13th and most recent album, “Cinéma El Mundo” was released in 2012 to celebrate the band’s 30th birthday.

At the concert later this month in Vietnam, the band will perform some of their hits including “Deux Batons: (Two poles), “Zetwal” (Stars), “Vientiane” and “Au début” (The beginning).

The concert will be held at 8pm at IDECAF, 31 Thai Van Lung Street in HCMC’s District 1. Tickets are available at IDECAF and cost VND100,000 (US$4.81) for general public and VND50,000 for students.
