A Vietnamese man has sparked public outrage after a clip surfaced online on Saturday of him beating his little daughter furiously with a belt in Hanoi.

The man, reportedly 26-year-old Dao Duc Khiem, could be seen hitting his daughter on the body and in the head repeatedly with a belt in the six-minute footage filmed by a disgruntled woman witnessing the abuse.

Khiem was heard swearing at the girl throughout the beating, even saying, “I brought you to this life so I can well kill you, little brat!”

“It’s none of your business,” Khiem said as he was confronted by the filming woman. “I’m educating my kid.”

The abuse is believed to have happened at a road side eatery in Hanoi.

In the few hours after the clip was uploaded to social media, a wave of angry comments flooded in, expressing disgust at Khiem’s violence against his own child.

Pham Thi Hai Ha, deputy head of the Bureau of Child Protection and Care, was unaware of the incident when Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper contacted her for comment later the same day.

After watching the clip sent by the Tuoi Tre reporters, Ha said she too was outraged by the man’s violent actions against a child of his own.

Ha said she had discussed with competent agencies to confirm his identity and take immediate action to separate the man from his children should their safety be at risk living with their father.

In related news, an earlier viral photo of Khiem carrying his youngest child on the back while he rummaged through garbage bins looking for recyclable bottles to sell had left many feeling pity for the man and donating money to help him raise his kids.

In the stories told by Khiem that followed, he said his wife had left him with three small children when he went broke after being scammed out of money.

However, inconsistencies and even twisted truths in his stories have already been pointed out by many people, and with the recent beating of one of his children, many suggest his tear-jerking story is nothing but a play.
