A documentary on two young Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange has been nominated for the 2016 Emmy Award.

The film named ‘Long Thanh Will Lachen’ by German director Philipp Abresch is among eight nominees for the Television and International News category of this year’s award.

The 28-minute work depicts the harsh life of Long Thanh, a 15-year-old boy, and his brother.

Both suffered birth defects caused by their father's exposure to Agent Orange during the American war in Vietnam.

Despite his physical flaws and misfortunes, Thanh always shows his optimism and positive attitude to overcome difficulties.

Abresch, whose documentary was aired last year, is currently the Singapore Bureau Chief of the German-based public broadcaster ARD.

The list was announced on August 9 by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

On his Facebook, the director said he is happy having his work nominated for the prestigious international award.

“Thanh is really an inspiring character,” Abresch wrote.

The list of winners will be released on September 21 in New York.

From the 1950s to 1975, the U.S. military sprayed 80 million liters of dioxin chemicals on forests and residential areas in Vietnam.

It is a chemical warfare with the largest scale ever in history, destroying many generations of Vietnamese and the country’s environment and ecological system as well.

After 40 years, people in Vietnam still suffer tremendous mental and physical disabilities due to the toxic’s repercussion.
