Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has announced a recall of 2,097 cars in the country to check and replace components for free.
The recall affects multiple models, including VF e34, VF 5 Plus, VF 6 Plus, VF 8, and VF 9.
According to VinFast, 23 VF e34 and 131 VF 5 Plus vehicles, manufactured between September 9, 2023 and April 11, 2024, are at risk of the bolts on the top cover plate becoming loose, reducing the waterproof capability.
VinFast will check and tighten or replace the bolts. It will take nearly four hours to fix the error in each car.
The recall program will last until July 10.
As for the VF 6 Plus model, vehicles manufactured between March 18 and April 9 this year may have cracks on their brake fluid pipe connectors, causing brake fluid leakage.
If the brake fluid level drops below the threshold, the effectiveness of the braking system may be reduced.
The number of vehicles suspected to be affected by this issue is 47.
VinFast expects to correct the error in 2.2 hours per car.
Moreover, 1,134 VF 8 and VF 9 units, both Eco and Plus models, launched between August 2022 and March 2024, have been recalled due to the potential installation of incorrect airbags.
After these vehicles have been driven for approximately 10,000 kilometers, their screens will display an airbag error warning, indicating a need for inspection.
If the vehicles are equipped with the wrong airbags, the airbags will not deploy to protect the occupants in the event of a collision.
VinFast has reported the recall program to the Vietnam Register and will notify the owners of affected vehicles.
According to experts, recalling vehicles to correct errors is not new to consumers. It demonstrates manufacturers' responsibility towards their customers and products.
