A company has proposed opening two new open-top double-decker bus routes in Ho Chi Minh City to contribute to boosting the quality of the transport service and prevent a monopoly.
The municipal Department of Transport has written to the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, reporting that Viet Bigbus Tourism Transportation and Media JSC wishes to run two more double-decker bus routes in the city to foster tourism and night-time economic activities.
As proposed, the routes will run across District 1 and District 5, and some areas in District 3, District 4, District 6, District 10, and Thu Duc City.
Open-top double-decker buses on the first proposed route will transport passengers to a wide array of the city’s landmarks, including Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street, the Reunification Palace, the Saigon Central Post Office, the War Remnants Museum, Nha Rong (Dragon) Wharf, and Ba Son Bridge.
Meanwhile, the other route will reach such sites as the Reunification Palace, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Bui Vien Pedestrian Street, Huyen Sy Church, Saigon University, An Dong Market, Ba Thien Hau Pagoda, Kim Bien Market, and Binh Tay Market.
According to the municipal department, the city currently has two companies piloting tours on open-top double-decker bus routes.
Specifically, Anh Viet Hop On Hop Off Vietnam has been operating the open-top double-decker bus route DL01 since January 2020.
The firm inaugurated the route DL03 on May 29.
Vietnamtourism-Hanoi JSC is in charge of the DL02 route, which started its operation in August 2022.
The company began to operate one more route, called DL04, on July 7.
The municipal department said that the routes proposed by Viet Bigbus do not overlap the current routes.
The planned bus stops along the two routes align with the list of 175 locations and tourist sites provided by the municipal Department of Tourism.
Thus, the proposal to introduce two more double-decker bus routes in the city meets the requirements set by the Ministry of Transport.
