Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) maker VinFast delivered more than 9,300 electric cars to customers last month, taking the lead in the local automobile market.
VinFast overcame its international rivals Toyota, Ford, Honda, Kia, and Mitsubishi to achieve the result.
In September, Toyota sold nearly 7,000 cars; Mitsubishi, nearly 5,400; Kia, 4,015; Ford, almost 4,000; and Honda, over 3,600, according to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association.
The statistics demonstrated Vietnamese consumers’ shift from gasoline-powered cars to EVs.
Vu Anh Tuan, CEO of VinFast Vietnam, said the strong support of customers was an important factor for the company to achieve the milestone.
VinFast will continue striving to maintain its growth and fulfill its plan to sell 80,000 cars this year.
The carmaker also looks to become the best-selling auto brand in Vietnam this year and cement its position in the international market.
A key factor that helped VinFast succeed in the local market is the diversity of its product portfolio, according to auto experts.
Its EVs, such as VF e34, VF 5, VF 6, VF 7 and VF 9, are equipped with advanced technology and sold at affordable prices.
VinFast plans to launch a mini electric car model with two seats, designed for crowded cities, in the near future.
The model is expected to be VinFast’s next ace in the hole to expand its market share in Vietnam and abroad.
Boosting EV sales in int’l market
Aside from the Vietnamese market, VinFast is making strategic steps to branch out into foreign markets.
Consumers in the Philippines and Indonesia, two potential markets in Southeast Asia, have shown their support for VinFast’s EV models.
Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc, CEO of VinFast Philippines, said consumers’ backing helped VinFast achieve the first success in its international expansion.
In Indonesia, VinFast has handed over the first VF e34s to consumers, marking its presence in this market.
The company has plans to access European and North American clients as well.
