Vietnam and the United States are discussing ways to deepen their partnership and potentially reach a higher-level relationship if conditions permit, Pham Thu Hang, spokesperson of the Vietnamese foreign ministry, said at a regular press briefing in Hanoi on Thursday.
Bilateral ties between the two countries have flourished in numerous fields over the years, Hang said.
The two nations are currently moving toward a more sustainable and long-term relationship that will enable them to jointly contribute to the world's peace, stability, and development, according to the spokesperson.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-U.S. comprehensive partnership.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken affirmed in a video posted on July 24 to mark the celebration of the diplomatic ties that Vietnam and the U.S. have built, and transformed into, a dynamic relationship to generate success.
Blinken said that his visit to Vietnam in April was aimed at expanding and strengthening bilateral ties.
He expressed his hope that the partnership will continue to thrive over the next 10 years.
The two countries will use the 10-year milestone to determine new steps for a brighter future, Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son said in a telegram sent to Blinken on July 26.
Minister Son underscored that Vietnam sees the United States as a key partner.
Vietnam is willing to collaborate with the U.S. to spur bilateral ties in all fields, mainly commerce, investment, technology, and innovation, in order to advance the benefits of the two peoples, said the Vietnamese official.
He also shared his belief that the Vietnam-U.S. partnership will make greater strides in the next 10 years and emphasized that Vietnam will continue to throw its support behind the U.S. cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the Asia-Pacific region, and the Indian Ocean.
