A long-haul bus has been destroyed by fire while traveling on a major southern Vietnamese highway on Sunday, but no fatalities resulted.
A sleeper coach en route to Ho Chi Minh City caught alight at 10:00 am on the day after entering the Ho Chi Minh City – Trung Luong Expressway, a 70-kilometer-long fast route connecting the metropolis with Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region, according to eyewitnesses.
Le Minh Sang, the driver, pulled in as passengers spotted smoke rising from the rear of the vehicle, which was operated by the Minh Man passenger transit company.
All the occupants, numbering 20, swiftly fled the coach and attempts were made to extinguish the fire, but to no avail.
The fire spread rapidly before gutting the vehicle.
Firefighters took 15 minutes to put out the flames.
No one reportedly died in the incident.
The cause of the fire has not been identified.
