The health authority in Binh Duong Province, southern Vietnam has reported the second monkeypox case who is a 19-year-old resident in the provincial city of Thuan An, a local health official confirmed on Friday.

The patient, named L.M.T, earlier had close contact with another patient with confirmed monkeypox in neighboring Ho Chi Minh City, said Huynh Minh Chin, deputy director of the provincial Department of Health.

T. visited Becamex International Hospital, located in the province, where he tested positive for monkeypox, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

He is under quarantine and medical treatment at Thuan An City Medical Center.

A working team led by Chin has worked with Thuan An Medical Center to jointly take measures to prevent the spread of the disease.

Those who have come into close contact with T. since September 5 would be tested.

Binh Duong detected its first monkeypox case on September 23, who is a 22-year-old resident in Bac Tan Uyen District.

The patient has recovered and is expected to be discharged from hospital on Tuesday next week.
