The international passenger terminal (T2) of Da Nang International Airport in central Vietnam has become the first facility of its kind in Southeast Asia to obtain a Welcome Chinese certification from the China Tourism Academy in recognition of its dedicated efforts to enhance services for Chinese travelers.
It attained the Gold Certificate, the highest tier in a three-level ranking acknowledged by the China Tourism Academy, a principal governmental research and promotion institute under the management of the Chinese National Tourism Authority.
The certification is exclusively granted to facilities that have implemented specialized services for Chinese tourists, aligning each service with the quality standards recommended by China’s tourism authorities.
Da Nang International Airport’s T2 terminal stands as the sole representative from Southeast Asia to receive this certificate.
Globally, Italy boasts four certified Welcome Chinese airports, while France, Russia, Spain, and Saudi Arabia have one each.
To secure the Welcome Chinese certification, the T2 terminal has taken various measures, including displaying signage, flight information screens, restaurant menus, maps, and websites in Chinese.
Beyond offering complimentary hot water and services from Chinese-speaking staff, its stores facilitate payments through UnionPay and WeChat Pay, two major payment methods in mainland China, along with tax refund counters.
Opened in May 2017 at a cost of VND3.5 trillion (US$144 million) to cater to the 2017 APEC Summit Week, the T2 terminal occupies a 21,000-square-meter campus with a capacity for up to six million passengers annually.
In March, it became the first terminal in Vietnam to be awarded four stars by Skytrax, the world’s foremost airport and airline rating organization.
Do Trong Hau, deputy general director of Da Nang International Terminal Investment and Operation Joint Stock Company, emphasized that the T2 terminal serves as a crucial gateway and the initial point of contact for international tourists arriving in Da Nang.
The Welcome Chinese certification enhances the airport and Da Nang’s overall image as a convenient and welcoming destination for the Chinese tourist community.
Moreover, it contributes to extensive promotion, linking local tourism services to this vital market.
Since the world reopened post-COVID-19, the T2 terminal has consistently implemented infrastructure upgrades, improved green spaces, optimized processes, and developed ecosystems.
It has also customized amenities to cater to the preferences of Muslim groups, as well as Chinese and South Korean tourists.
