Police in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City are investigating the drowning of a 10th grader in a swimming pool on Thong Nhat Street in the district.
The victim was identified as N.L.M.D., a 15-year-old schoolgirl at a high school in Go Vap District.
D. and her two friends, a boy and a girl, entered the swimming pool after buying entrance tickets at noon on Monday.
Two lifesavers were guarding the pool at that time.
The trio sat on a chair near the pool after they swam.
Subsequently, one of the lifeguards did not see D., thereby asking her friends where she was.
The lifeguard then checked and found D. at the bottom of the swimming pool, so he jumped into it to scoop her up.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Yet, she was pronounced dead.
Police in the district quickly cordoned off the pool for investigation.
The pool measures from 0.8 meters to 2.5 meters in depth.
D. drowned at the 2.5-meter-deep pool section.
The owner of the pool said that it was closed to visitors on that day, but these students implored ticket selling employees to allow them to enter it.
