Police in Long An Province in southern Vietnam said on Wednesday that they had received a thank-you letter from the Consulate General of China in Ho Chi Minh City after two local police officers rescued a Chinese child from drowning in a swimming pool in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam, late last month.
The two policemen were Nguyen Quoc Dat and Le Duc Anh from Phuoc Dong Commune, Can Duoc District, Long An Province. They saved the child while they were visiting a tourist area in Nha Trang as part of a political course.
In the thank-you letter, the Consulate General of China in Ho Chi Minh City wrote that the two police officers’ good deed shows the excellent behavior of Vietnamese police officers and features the close and friendly relationship and the mutual support between the peoples of the two countries.
On behalf of the family of the child, the consulate general expressed its respect and most sincere gratitude to the Long An Police and the two police officers.
Earlier, the Long An Police commended the two policemen for their act.
They found a resort employee attempting to rescue a child from drowning in the swimming pool on San Ho 2 Island in Nha Trang City.
Without hesitation, the two swiftly intervened, pulling the unconscious child to safety.
Employing their first aid training, the officers administered life-saving measures, stabilizing the child before transferring him to a medical facility for further treatment.
The child, a 10-year-old Chinese tourist, had been dining with his family at a nearby restaurant and had entered the pool unaccompanied, resulting in the near-tragic incident.
