Local competent forces at noon on Friday were coping with the aftermath of a serious land sinking incident which began hitting a food company’s warehouse in Can Tho City, southern Vietnam the day earlier, with losses estimated at more than VND10 billion (US$392,970).
Land subsidence took a toll on a total area of over 1,500 square meters at the Ben Thuy warehouse operated by Hung Phuoc Food JSC, located in the outlying district of Co Do, according to the district’s steering committee for natural disaster prevention and control.
The land subsidence continued to ravage a road adjacent to the warehouse, causing road cracks on an area of 168 square meters.
The steering committee dispatched soldiers and police officers to the land sinking-hit area to relocate commodities, food items in the warehouse to a safer place, set up a warning sign of land subsidence on the road, and dismantle the warehouse, since the land sinking showed no signs of abating.
Authorities also assisted local residents in the affected area with evacuating their assets.
