Police in Hanoi are tracking the origin of a crocodile weighing some five kilograms that a resident caught in a local fishing lake several days earlier, a local official told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Monday.

Images from the case which happened in Hoang Liet Ward, Hoang Mai District, Hanoi surfaced on social media on Monday.

The ward government confirmed the information, saying that it received the news on Saturday last week.

A leader of the authorities in Hoang Liet Ward said the crocodile was caught when it was floating on the surface of the lake.

He added that the reptile might have come from another place as the ward has no crocodile farms.

“We will identify the origin of the crocodile to prevent similar cases,” the official noted.
