-- Vietnamese property tycoon Truong My Lan, who was sentenced to death in one of the biggest corruption cases in history with an estimated US$27 billion in damages, on Friday filed an appeal against the entire first-instance verdict.

-- The Aviation Security Center at Da Nang International Airport in the namesake central city said on Saturday that they had returned a bag containing over VND300 million ($11,843) in cash to a passenger who left the bag at the airport as he was absorbed in a conversation a day earlier.

-- The Hanoi Department of Information and Communications has fined a male TikToker VND5 million ($197.4) for providing inaccurate information on social media. The TikToker had earlier written on Facebook that he was refused at a pho restaurant and received harsh words at another in the city as he was in a wheelchair, a representative of the department’s inspectorate told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Saturday.

-- The Thu Duc City Infrastructure Development Center in Ho Chi Minh City has greenlit the relocation and felling of 185 trees along Vo Nguyen Giap Street for a project to connect bus routes and the first metro line in the city.

-- A magnitude-4 earthquake struck Ham Yen District in the northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang on Saturday afternoon, according to the Institute of Geophysics.

-- A male long-tailed monkey has been anesthetized and brought to a wildlife rescue station after it continuously annoyed residents in Ho Chi Minh City’s outskirt district of Cu Chi, the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department announced on Saturday.

Education

-- All 10 Vietnamese students competing at the 58th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad held in China between April 20 and 27 won medals, including one gold, five silvers, and four bronzes, although this was the first time Vietnam has sent students to the competition, the Chemical Society of Vietnam announced on Saturday.

-- Many international tourists have expressed their excitement about traditional dishes of Thua Thien-Hue Province in central Vietnam while attending the Hue Traditional Cuisine Week 2024 which opened on Saturday evening.
