A lot of foreigners crowded into the My Khe beach – voted as among the best beaches in Asia in 2024 – in central Vietnam’s Da Nang City for sea bathing and relaxation on Saturday amid the scorching weather that has hit the city as well as the whole country for the past few months.  

At 9:00 am on Saturday, a great deal of foreigners were enjoying their relaxation time on many areas of the beach on Vo Nguyen Giap Street bordering Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son Districts, despite the extreme heat of nearly 40 degrees Celsius covering the city.

Some of them were swimming or sea bathing, some others were lying on the sand for sunbathing or reading, and the rest experienced the excitement of wave-skiing, surfing or standup paddle board (SUP) tours, as recorded by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporters.

They also enjoyed beach utilities offered by local service providers, including beach huts, lounge chairs and others.

Most of these foreign travelers hailed from Nordic countries, Eastern Europe, Russia, Ukraine and South Korea.

They occupied the most part of the beach, as the domestic travelers could be counted on one hand despite Saturday being the first day of the five-day break on the Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers’ Day (May 1) in Vietnam.

The main reason was likely the boiling weather that discouraged them from going out.

When facing such blazing weather, local people often choose to go to the beach for relaxation early in the morning or late in the afternoon, Vo Anh Thoai, a surfing instructor, told Tuoi Tre.

Mikhail, a Russian tourist, and his group of friends chose to go surfing on the beach under the hot sun.

He affirmed that even though the weather was hot, people from cold countries like him did not feel uncomfortable, but liked to lie in the sun.

The foreigner commented that the sun was beautiful, the sky was clear and the waves were fairly high that day, so his group would come back in the afternoon of the same day.

A Russian family said Da Nang, with its beautiful beaches, has become one of the key destinations of their ongoing vacation in Vietnam.

The My Khe Beach, famous for its blue sky, soft white sand, gentle slope, scenic coconut areas and clear and warm water all year round, has been recently included in Asia’s top 10 most best beaches in 2024 as voted by readers of Tripadvisor, one of the world largest travel guidance platforms.

According to a recent forecast, the number of foreign tourists to Da Nang during the holidays may increase by five percent year on year, mainly thanks to the strong recovery of international flights. 

Meanwhile, domestic tourists to the city may decline by 25 percent due to increased airfares.
