A man was killed by a lightning strike while he was catching frogs in Long An Province, southern Vietnam on Friday.

The deceased was identified as P.V.C., a resident of neighboring Tien Giang Province.

A representative of the Vinh Hung District General Hospital in Long An Province said on Friday evening that the hospital had admitted a patient struck by lightning.

The victim was taken to the hospital when he stopped breathing and suffered severe burns, said the representative.

While C. and some others were catching frogs in Thai Binh Trung Commune under Vinh Hung District at 3:30 pm, thunder began crashing in the sky.

C. then was struck by lightning.

Long An Province and some other southern localities experienced downpours, coupled with thunderstorms, on Friday afternoon.

The southern weather center issued a warning against thunder, lightning, powerful winds, heavy rain and hailstorm in the region at 8:00 pm the same day.
