The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has asked the Technical Infrastructure Management Center to prohibit open-top double-decker buses from pick-ups and drop-offs at 92-96 Nguyen Hue Street in District 1.
As per the department’s request, Anh Viet Co. Ltd., the operator of the city’s open-top double-decker buses, should halt activities that require stopping on Nguyen Hue Street.
The Technical Infrastructure Management Center will also direct the unit in charge of maintaining and protecting the President Ho Chi Minh Monument Park and Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in cooperating with other relevant agencies to promptly identify and address the issue of illegally parked open-top double-decker buses in the park.
The President Ho Chi Minh Monument Park and Nguyen Hue Street, both located in the downtown area, are home to four bus stops.
However, they have been abandoned.
As a result, the municipal Department of Construction asked the Department of Transport to review and give opinions about the operation of the four bus stops.
If the Department of Transport affirms that the city will not use these four bus stops in the future, the Department of Construction will ask for the municipal government’s permission to demolish them in order provide more space for residents and tourists.
A representative of Anh Viet Co. Ltd. has recently told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the company has operated the bus stop for open-top double-decker buses on Nguyen Hue Street for several years.
He affirmed that the firm had received approval from local authorities before using the bus stop and had frequently maintained it.
