-- Russian President Vladimir Putin and his entourage arrived in Hanoi at 2:00 am on Thursday, starting his state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong. 

-- State President To Lam on Wednesday cabled a message of congratulations to Slovak President Peter Pellegrini on the occasion of his inauguration, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

-- A low pressure area is forecast to form in the East Vietnam Sea this weekend and then might strengthen into a tropical depression, according to the national weather center.

-- Authorities in Vinh Long Province, southern Vietnam have declared a state of land collapse emergency along a bank of the Mang Thit River in Tan An Luong Commune, Vung Liem District. A 60-meter-long section of the riverbank experienced an instance of severe land collapse on June 7.

-- As many as 70 people tested positive for illicit drugs after police in Thua Thien-Hue Province, central Vietnam raided a bar in the heart of Hue City on June 10, an officer said on Wednesday.

-- Police in Kon Tum Province, located in the Central Highlands region, said on Wednesday that they had launched legal proceedings against a 28-year-old man for alleged asset appropriation as he sold Chinese ginseng while introducing the product as Vietnam’s Ngoc Linh ginseng.

-- A fire erupted at a 1,000-square-meter incense powder production facility on Tran Van Giau Street in Pham Van Hai Commune, Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday afternoon, killing two people.

-- Nearly 65,800 Vietnamese laborers went abroad for work between January and May, meeting 52 percent of the full-year target. Of the total, some 35,000 workers traveled to Japan, according to the Department of Overseas Labor under the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs.
