Express boat services linking Rach Gia and Ha Tien with Phu Quoc Island, three cities of Kien Giang Province in southern Vietnam, have been halted due to bad weather conditions.
Another express boat service connecting Rach Gia with Nam Du, an island destination off the province’s Kien Hai District, is also subject to the suspension, which took effect from Saturday until further notice, the provincial Maritime Port Authority said the same day.
Meanwhile, the high-speed boat service from Rach Gia to Hon Son, an island off Kien Hai, remains operational.
Le Xuan Hien, director of the weather agency in Kien Giang, said rainfall of 30-32.8mm hit many parts of Rach Gia, Hon Son, and Phu Quoc from Thursday to Friday.
Precipitation of 60-90mm is expected to lash Kien Giang until Sunday.
Rainfall and thunderstorms, coupled with lightning and gusty winds, may wreak havoc on farming activities, homes, low-lying and riverside locations, Hien added.
The waters off Kien Giang could experience strong gusts of wind and 2.5-meter-high waves.
