Authorities in Da Lat City, located in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, are investigating an incident involving the brutal beating of a dog frequently used for paid photo services with tourists at Lam Vien Square, officials said Tuesday.
The investigation was prompted by a video that went viral on social media, showing a man repeatedly striking the dog's mouth and face with a stick before slapping its head while the animal was chained to an iron column.
The dog could be heard groaning in pain.
Another video surfaced showing two young men kicking the dog at Lam Vien Square, causing it to collapse.
The dog has been identified as an Alaskan Malamute.

Some residents in Da Lat bring their dogs to Lam Vien Square for photography services, a practice now under scrutiny following the release of two disturbing videos that have sparked widespread public outrage.
Many netizens are urging local authorities to investigate the case and are calling on tourists to boycott pet photography at the square.
Hang Linh, a local netizen, expressed her anger at the men’s actions and pleaded with tourists to stop taking photos with the dogs at Lam Vien Square.
She shared her distress after witnessing the treatment of the animals during a visit to Da Lat last month.
Linh recalled that the dogs were kept outside until 10:00 pm, and when they tried to lie down, their owners forced them to stand up again.
