“We want to promote cultural understanding and exchange between Malaysia and Vietnam in a diverse way by showcasing the rich tapestry of Malaysian culture, including its vibrant cuisine,” Consul General of Malaysia Firdauz Bin Othman said during the opening of a new Malaysian restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City.

“We hope to arouse the interest of Vietnamese people and encourage them to explore Malaysia further,” he added.

“Through various initiatives and events, such as the collaboration with Lesung ‘Authentic Malaysian Cuisine Restaurant,’ we consistently keep in mind our mission to foster, inspire, and arouse curiosity surrounding Malaysian culture.”

Launched on March 9 at 72/1 Tran Quoc Toan Street in District 3, Lesung restaurant is driven by Malaysian chef Eden Daus' love for Vietnam, his passion for sharing his heritage, and supported by friends, including Vietnamese chef Tommy Tran and Malaysian content creator Arieff Yong.

For chef Daus, Lesung is a labor of love, a tribute to his cherished memories of home, and a heartfelt expression of gratitude to Vietnam, a country that has embraced him with open arms.

It also aims to serve as a bridge connecting Vietnam and Malaysia through the authentic flavors and warm hospitality that are at the heart of both cultures.

“Having fallen in love with the people and vibrant flavors of Vietnam, I wanted to return the favor by sharing the rich, creamy, authentic food and flavors I grew up with,” Daus shared his reason for opening the restaurant.

According to the chef, his restaurant sources special ingredients like petai, bunga kantan, asam keping, among others from Malaysia to ensure an authentic culinary adventure for diners.

Lesung serves a wide range of Malaysian dishes, including prawn cucur, roti jala with chicken curry, prawn otak otak, rendang short rib, and eggplant sambal, to name a few.
