Under a memorandum of understanding signed in Brunei on Thursday, the navies of Vietnam and Brunei have agreed to establish a hotline to facilitate their future cooperation.

The MoU was inked during the meeting between visiting Commander of the Vietnamese People’s Navy Admiral Nguyen Van Hien and Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy, Rear Admiral Dato Paduka Hj Abd Halim bin Hj Mohd Hanifah on December 5.

At the meeting, the two sides reviewed defense and military ties in the past and discussed measures to further promote their cooperation in the future.

Admiral Nguyen Van Hien, who is also a deputy defense minister, also had a talk with senior officers of the Ministry of Defense and the Royal Br unei Armed Forces, during which the two sides agreed that the MoU would contribute to boosting multifaceted cooperation between the two naval forces in maintaining peace, stability and maritime security in the region.

During his 6-day visit to Brunei starting December 1, Hien also attended the 4th Brunei International Defense Exhibition (BRIDEX 4).

Vietnam and Brunei established diplomatic relations on February 29, 1992.
