City event marks 20th year of Doraemon in Vietnam

Local fans of the famous robot cat Doraemon will have a chance to enjoy their own space at an event in Ho Chi Minh City this weekend to mark the 20th year the Japanese renowned comic book has been published in Vietnam.

Titled “Doraemon and Friends,” the event organized by Kim Dong Publisher will feature games, photo booths and book display on December 9 in the city’s zoo. Entrance tickets can be found at Kim Dong bookstore at 43 Ho Van Hue Street in Phu Nhuan District.

On December 8, there is also a meeting titled “Doraemon – The 20-year Journey” gathering Kim Dong publishing house’s editors, translators and cartoonists who have worked to produce the comic book in Vietnam as well as guests from Japanese publisher Shogakukan.

First published in Vietnam in 1992, Doraemon has made a turning point for Kim Dong publisher to approach the local market, opening a new era for comic books.
