Agricultural exhibition in Vietnam’s metropolis lures thousands

Hi-tech Agro 2014, the biggest agricultural exhibition hosted by Ho Chi Minh City trade authorities for the third time in a row, has become a favorite place for local visitors to learn about new technologies in agriculture-aquaculture and buy best products offered by leading Vietnamese food processors.
The 5-day event, to be wrapped up on Sunday evening at Le Van Tam Park in District 1, is also designed to promote local agricultural technologies and produce.
The event, the third of its kind hosted by HCMC Center for Trade Promotion and Investment (ITPC) under HCMC People’s Committee, featured 340 booths of over 200 companies and units from Ho Chi Minh City, the Southeast region and 13 provinces/cities in the Mekong Delta.
With four separated areas, it was meeting point for high-tech agricultural enterprises and food processing industrialists from the southern economic hub and 19 provinces/cities of the southern region of Vietnam.
“The exhibition is an opportunity for agricultural and food processing firms of HCMC and the aforementioned provinces to gain the access and grasp the latest scientific and technological advancements and achievements in the field of high-tech agriculture and food industry,” said the organizer.
In addition, it will help enhance the communications and the experience and information exchange between domestic and foreign enterprises to improve product quality and branding, sharpen the competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products to attract more foreign investment in the local agriculture and food industry sectors.
Moreover, the event is also home to four thematic workshops on agriculture and technical consultancy services.
Throughout the event, there are art shows, bonsai exhibition programs, ornamental fish exhibition and orchid and ornamental plant contests.
Within the framework of the event, ITPC also coordinated with the Department of Science and Technology to organize a seminar on the solutions to improving efficiency supply chain of agricultural products of high technology and another on the application of post-harvest technologies to enhance the value of agricultural production and food processing.

Ho Chi Minh City-based Nguyen Nong Co (GINO) has brought a new vegetable garden model for urban families to a hi-tech agricultural exhibition in HCMC. With the new model, GINO wants to popularize an ecological planting model that can fit into a small area for families in urban communities, Nguyen Thi Dao, director of GINO, talked about the model on display at the ongoing Hi-Tech Agro 2014. For a size of just 20m2, you can grow many varieties of vegetables for daily needs. So, just a small yard, a corner on the terrace is possible for such a family vegetable garden, she added. |
