PepsiCo fined by Vietnam health ministry for product testing violations

PepsiCo fined by Vietnam health ministry for product testing violations

Friday, November 18, 2016, 13:09 GMT+7

Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam has been fined over one thousand U.S. dollars for non-compliance with periodical product testing regulations, according to a decision issued Thursday by the country’s health ministry.

The decision, signed by deputy chief inspector of the Ministry of Health’s Inspectorate Nguyen Van Nhien, cited the beverage company’s “inadequate” periodical product testing as the reason for the fine.

The basis for Thursday’s decision came from an earlier inspection that found PepsiCo had only carried out periodical tests on one representative sample for each of its product packaging designs with the same formula.

Vietnamese law dictates that each packaging design must be tested separately, regardless of its content, Nhien told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.

The report noted however that all products of the drink maker met standards, and only its testing method was improper.

The Ministry of Health also demanded that Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam put an end to the malpractice and carry out full testing on all of its products in accordance with the law.

The beverage company was subject to a VND25 million (US$1,116) fine for their violation.
