Politics:

-- Vietnam has huge potential investment opportunities for the UK businesses, particularly in area of infrastructure development, said David Wootton , Lord Mayor of the City of London, at a press briefing in London before heading a 20 businesses people delegation to Vietnam this month to further develop bilateral trade and investment opportunities between the two nations.

Society:

-- Some 1,500 national relic sites will be restored and repaired in the next three years, according to a national target program recently approved by the Prime Minister.

Business:

-- Vietnamese rice exports totaled more than 928,000 tons in August, a year-on-year surge of more than 33 percent, according to Truong Thanh Phong, chairman of the Vietnam Food Association (VFA).

-- The Asian Development Bank will offer $500,000 in non-refundable aid to help Vietnam carry out a technical assistance project for the Microfinance Development Program which costs a total of $600,000. The project will be implemented by the State Bank of Vietnam over a period of 18 months.

-- Vietnam Airlines will offer a promotion program providing 110,000 cheap tickets for international and domestic flight routes. Customers can buy promotional tickets for flight routes to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Japan, and the UK at an average price of VND1.253 million ($59) for a two-way ticket and VND400,000 ($19) for a one-way ticket for domestic flights.
