The first-ever feature project of the Vietnamese and Japanese television film sectors is slated to be screened in Hanoi next week and in Japan later this year.

The film, “Betonamu No Kaze Ni Fukarete” (“Hoa Cung Lan Gio Viet” or “Final Days of Life in Vietnam”), will be shown at the National Cinema Center, located at 87 Lang Ha in Ba Dinh District at 4:00 pm on August 18.

The movie is adapted from Japanese writer Miyuki Komatsu’s novel and life story, titled “Echigo no Bachan Vietnam e Yuku” (Echigo’s Grandma Goes to Vietnam).

The novel was first published in Japanese and later translated into Vietnamese.

Its author, who is also a teacher, is currently living in Hanoi.

The film, created by Japanese director Kazuki Omori, revolves around a 62-year-old Japanese teacher residing in Vietnam who brings her Alzheimer-affected octogenarian mother to live with her and spend the rest of her life in the Southeast Asian country.

A work of Japanese and Vietnamese producers, the feature stars veteran Japanese actresses Keiko Matsuzaka and Reiko Kusamura, alongside the Vietnamese cast.

Keiko Matsuzaka, a much-loved actress with prominent roles in films and television dramas for over 20 years, had to learn Vietnamese for her protagonist role in this movie.

“Final Days of Life in Vietnam” will also hit Japanese screens in September, Dang Tat Binh, one of its producers, told the Vietnam News Agency.
