As a significant landmark in bilateral ties, Vietnam and Japan conducted their first security dialogue at the deputy ministerial level in Hanoi on Tuesday. The event was co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Tran Viet Tan and Deputy Head of the Japan National Police Agency Kanetaka Masahito. During the dialogue, the host and guest shared professional expertise, strategic information, and ways to strengthen and expand their cooperation in the fields of national security, social safety and order, and crime combat. Speaking at the event, Tan hailed it as an important milestone in bilateral cooperation and a step to implement the contents of the Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership. Meanwhile, Masahito highly valued the achievements the two countries have gained together in the past time. He also said that he believes both sides will attain more good performance in joint security coordination. Vietnam’s Minister of Public Security General Tran Dai Quang had a meeting with Masahito on the same day, voicing his wish that the two countries will further boost bilateral coordination against crimes of all kinds for peace and security in the region and beyond. The Minister also said the two countries’ ties have been lifted to a new level thanks to a recent visit by his ministry to Japan and a recent visit made by President of the Japan National Public Safety Commission to Vietnam. In reply, the guest pledged that his agency will step up cooperation in fighting transnational crimes with the ministry, as part of efforts to implement the comprehensive cooperation between Japan and Vietnam.
