Le Van Tap, chairman of the Ea H’Leo District People’s Committee, said that large volumes of water that flowed down from the upstream rivers and streams on September 17 caused the deadly flashflood. Many locals in the district’s Ea Drang town said the flashflood began at 10 AM that day and lasted for many hours. “The flooding came rapidly and most residents could not respond to it in time. In a few minutes, floodwater reached a half of the height of the wall of my house, submerging all furniture and other items,” said Le Thi Nga, a local woman in Ea Drang.
